The favored summer
retreat of the colonial English in South India, Munnar is
renowned for its ‘Neelakurinji’, the blue rarely flowering bush
and of course ‘Nilgiri Tahr’ – the endangered mountain goat
saved from the brink of extinction and native to this
region. Miles of manicured tea gardens, winding lanes, bungalows
and churches with ivy covered stonewalls and colonial
architecture reminiscent of a bygone era, rolling hills dotted
with “picture perfect” quaint villages guarded by majestic
mountain peaks that seemingly caress the passing clouds –
welcome to Munnar! |
